Counselling and Psychotherapy

Counselling and Psychotherapy can help at times of personal difficulty; it can offer you confidential and private support, a safe space to explore difficult feelings, to understand patterns in relationships and to work on making changes in your life.

We provide counselling to both adults and teenagers.  From September 2009, integrative arts pscyhotherapy is available for adults and young people 17+.

How does Counselling differ from Psychotherapy

Both counselling and psychotherapy involve talking to someone who is trained to listen so there is no definitive distinction between counselling and psychotherapy.  However, in general, counselling is a talking therapy which allows you to deal with specific life issues, whereas psychotherapy is used to deal with 'deeper' issues which are still causing you distress.

It may be helpful to think of counselling and pscyhotherapy as being at either ends of the scale.  At one end would be brief counselling to deal with a specific problem and, at the other end, would be longer-term psychotherapy to deal with deeper rooted problems.

How does Counselling differ from Psychotherapy?

If you imagine driving a car, coaching focuses on going forward while keeping a regular look in your rear view mirror to where you have come from.   Coaching involves learning from action and working in partnership with your coach to create and achieve your goals.

Counselling focuses on past issues which are holding you back and causing difficulty in your life.  It enables you to process painful and difficult feelings for healing, growth and transformation so you can move forward.

Inspire to Motivate's coaching and counselling services are bound by the professional ethics of the International NLP Trainers' Association. (INLPTA), Health Professions Council (HPC) and United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapy (UKCP).
